1.2. Recommendations to take this course

Prior knowledge of subjects related to the biological bases of behavior is advantageous but not required, especially with a focus on synaptic communication, neurotransmission and functional neuroanatomy. In addition, it will be useful to have knowledge of English for readings, office automation, internet management, operation of the university library resources and specialized databases in Psychology.

1.4. Activities and key dates

The general activities to be carried out in the course will be: 1) presentation of the subject, content, activities and evaluation criteria; 2) provision of the theoretical and practical content; 3) assessment.

Moodle will be the platform through which the student will be kept informed and up to day of the activities and key dates. Key Dates to be determined.

5.1. Methodological overview

The methodology followed in this course is oriented towards achievement of the learning objectives. It is based on lectures and practice sessions. 

5.2. Learning tasks

The course includes 2 ECTS organized according to:

  • Lectures (1 ECTS: 10 hours)
  • Practice sessions (1 ECTS: 10 hours)

5.3. Syllabus

The course will address the following topics:

  1. Clinical psychopharmacology: psychopharmacotherapy concept.
  2. Psychobiological aspects before administering drugs.
  3. Basic Psychopharmacology: Sedatives, hypnotics and sleeping pills, alcohol, stimulants, antidepressants, anxiolytics, antipsychotics, mood regulators, anticonvulsants, psychedelics, psychenergizers and vasodilators.
